In 2007, a little girl from the village of Cherechiu was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe vitamin deficiency and malnutrition. She was so weak she could not even stand. After more than a month in the hospital, she returned to her village barely able to walk — all because she had no access to healthy, nutritious food. During the long winter months, she had survived mostly on bread.

That spring, we responded by giving garden seeds to families in the villages where we ministered, and soon beautiful gardens began to grow. What started as a simple response to one child’s need quickly grew into a ministry that continues to this day. Over the years, we have expanded the project by providing garden seeds, baby chicks, fruit and nut trees, and small animals such as goats and pigs, helping families learn to grow their own food.

For many families, this has been truly transformational, improving both health and home stability.

Today, this outreach continues every year through our “Spring into Action” project, helping families prepare for the growing season and build a better future.

And that little girl who once could not stand is now grown, married, and raising a family of her own —

a beautiful reminder of how God can use small beginnings to bring lasting change.
